Ionising air knives for static neutralisation and particle removal

Ionising air knives combine an ionising bar with a directed airflow. The bar neutralises the static charge that can hold dust and particles on the material. The air knife then blows loose particles away from the surface.

The solution is relevant when ordinary blow-off cleaning produces inconsistent results because the material is electrostatically charged. Typical tasks include removing plastic chips after machining and cleaning plastic components before painting, assembly or further processing.

Which ionising air knife should you choose?

Selection depends primarily on the cleaning task, available installation space, air supply and any requirements for equipment in hazardous areas.

EX solutions must be selected according to the area classification and the requirements of the complete installation.

Compressed air or a blower?

The standard Air Knife combinations connect to a compressed-air supply. They are relevant when a defined surface needs treatment and the installation must fit the machine layout.

Typhoon receives air from a separate blower and is relevant for larger components or a continuous blow-off requirement. Operating hours, airflow demand, space and existing supplies should all inform the choice.

Positioning and dust collection are part of the solution

Neutralisation distance and cleaning distance are different. The airflow must reach the surface and move the actual particles. Length, distance and angle are therefore adapted to the component geometry and production speed.

Released dust must be directed away, for example through extraction or enclosure. Ionising air knives are intended for loose particles; oil, grease and firmly attached deposits may require another cleaning method.
