Equipment / Antistatic Equipment / Static Measuring Equipment
Static electricity is not always visible, but its effects can be felt throughout the production process. Employees may experience electric shocks, materials may stick together, dust can be attracted to surfaces, and machine processes may become unstable.
Static measuring equipment from Simco-ION makes it possible to determine where a static charge occurs, how severe it is and whether installed ionizing equipment is providing the required effect.
Northern Grafics offers both handheld instruments for troubleshooting and permanently installed sensors for continuous monitoring of static charge.
It is not always sufficient to establish that a static electricity problem exists. To select and position the correct solution, it is necessary to identify exactly where in the process the problem occurs.
Static measurements can be used to:
There is no single universal limit for how many kilovolts are acceptable in every production process. The result must be evaluated according to the material, measuring distance, production speed and sensitivity of the specific process.
It is therefore often most useful to compare measurements taken at different positions on the machine or before and after an ionizing solution.
FMX-004 is a handheld electrostatic field meter for troubleshooting and mapping static electricity. It is recommended when the source of a problem must be located or when the effect of an ionizing bar must be checked before and after ionization.
FMX-004 is Northern Grafics’ best-selling static measuring product. This is partly because the instrument is user-friendly, portable and can be used directly on different machines and production processes.
Sensor IQ Easy is a permanently installed sensor bar for continuous measurements. It is recommended when static charge must be monitored during production or when the measurements are to be included in a Closed Loop Feedback system.
Sensor IQ Easy 2.0 EX serves the same overall purpose but is designed for continuous measurement inside classified hazardous areas. The EX sensor is used with a Barrier Box installed outside the hazardous area.
TensION is a handheld high-voltage indicator. It is used to check whether high voltage is present at the emitter pins of ionizing or charging equipment.
TensION does not display the exact voltage and cannot document whether the equipment is neutralizing static electricity sufficiently. If the actual effect must be evaluated, measurements should instead be performed with FMX-004 or a permanently installed sensor system.
A handheld measuring instrument is suitable when static problems must be investigated on different machines or at different positions in the production process. FMX-004 can be moved quickly between measuring points and is therefore a practical tool for service, maintenance and troubleshooting.
A permanently installed sensor bar is recommended when measurements must be taken continuously or when the company needs to monitor and document developments over time. Sensor IQ Easy can also be used to regulate compatible ionizing bars automatically through the IQ Easy Platform.
The correct measuring solution depends on whether the purpose is temporary troubleshooting, continuous monitoring, process documentation or a simple check for the presence of high voltage.
Northern Grafics can help assess the application, interpret the measurements and select suitable measuring and ionizing equipment for the specific production process.
