
Static charging deliberately applies positive or negative charge to create controlled attraction. It can hold film against a roller, stabilise material during conveying or temporarily join two layers.
This is the opposite of static elimination: charging adds a useful charge, while ionisation removes an unwanted charge. The material can be neutralised later when adhesion is no longer needed.
A charging generator supplies and controls high voltage. Charging bars distribute charge across a longer area, while charging electrodes focus it on a small point or edge.
A classic example is cast film: electrodes at the outer edges pin the hot film to a grounded steel chill roll without charging the complete web width.
Material, geometry, width, speed, required adhesion, distance, temperature, space and grounded reference affect the design. Generator and bar or electrode must be selected as one system.
