In many production processes, it is crucial to detect holes and leaks in injection-molded products, films, and other transparent materials such as gloves and sensitive medical equipment.
Current methods, such as vacuum, pressure, or optical inspection, are often not applicable to transparent products or shapes that are difficult to handle. An effective way to detect these holes is by using controlled high-voltage sparks.
In this process, a special electrode emits sparks towards a ground reference, and these sparks can be detected and evaluated. They are used to detect perforations in plastic strips and products, but it’s important to note that they do not necessarily locate the perforations. When a perforation is present, it will generate a spark through the material, which in turn creates an output signal on a charging generator.
Perforation equipment is particularly useful in production environments where the integrity of injection-molded products such as yogurt cups and bottles is to be tested. It can also be used to detect perforations in films.
Most importantly, perforation detection using high voltage is not dependent on the material’s surface and can also be applied to transparent materials. When a perforation passes between the high-voltage electrode and a ground reference, a spark is triggered, which is registered, and a pulse signal is generated for use in the machine’s control system. This system enables a reliable way to detect and record perforations in various production scenarios.
