Equipment / Air Shafts / Leaf Type Air Shafts
ATEM leaf type air shafts use long expanding shells or segments that contact a large area of the core’s inner surface. A leaf type air shaft therefore distributes the gripping force more evenly than a design with individual lugs or short expanding elements.
ATEM normally recommends this solution for coreless materials and thin or sensitive cores that could be deformed or damaged by concentrated pressure.
A leaf type air shaft is suitable when the roll needs support across a large contact area or when the core cannot withstand high point loading. The design can also be useful when the application requires good roundness and stable centering.
