Compact perforation detector for plastic film

Even very small holes in plastic film can result in leaking bags, rejected products and customer complaints. The holes can be difficult to detect visually, particularly with transparent film or high production speeds.

Perfomaster from Simco-ION is designed for inline detection of holes, pinholes, weak spots and intentional perforations in a moving web of non-conductive material. Inspection takes place directly in the production line, allowing the machine controller to count defects, activate an alarm, stop the machine, mark the affected area or reject material.

How Perfomaster works

Perfomaster contains both the electrodes and an integrated high-voltage source. It therefore only requires a 24 V DC supply and does not need a separate high-voltage generator.

The unit is installed close to the material web by a grounded metal roller. When a hole passes between the electrodes and the roller, a controlled spark-over occurs through the hole. The spark-over is detected and converted into a pulse signal for the machine PLC. A two-colour LED indicates normal operation or a detected perforation.

Suitable for bag-making machines and converting lines

Perfomaster is primarily used on bag-making machines and converting lines for food packaging, freezer bags and other packaging that must remain airtight. Because detection is electrical and does not depend on colour or visual contrast, it can also be used on transparent, non-conductive film.

Perfomaster is recommended for compact installations where a defined area of the film must be inspected. If a larger part of the web width must be inspected, HD DET with CM5-30 is normally recommended.

Perfomaster is available as PM-2010 for 0–10 V control and PM-2024 for 0–24 V control. Replaceable electrode heads with round or pointed electrodes and different cable lengths are also available. The correct combination depends on the machine control signal, film type and existing installation.
